Easter!

Hey everyone!

Today is Easter!

Easter is a day where we remember what Jesus did for us and how he rose again. He died on the cross for us to save our sins and rose again on the Sunday. I am going to tell a story now so sit back, relax and read! :) (This is the website where I got this imformation from)

Very early on one morning, the soldiers brought Jesus to Pilate, who was the governor at the time. Pilate then asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Yes, I am.” This made the other chief priests angry because they were jealous of Jesus and the friends he had made with the Jews.

Pilate then went and listened to the complaints of his people but could not find any reason to punish him. Pilate questioned Jesus but Jesus didn’t stick up for himself. He knew they wouldn’t listen anyway. For Jesus knew he had done nothing wrong.

Pilate then called in all of the chief priests, rulers and the people and said to them, “I have talked to Jesus and cannot find any reason to kill him.”

All the people then started to shout, “We want Jesus! Release Barabbas instead!” Barabbas had been a man that had gone to jail because he had killed someone, and the people wanted him to be free and for Jesus to be punished. (It may sound weird but the people wanted Jesus to be punished because the chief priests had been going around telling people bad things about Jesus so that the people would be afraid of Jesus and want him punished and killed)

Pilate did not like this one bit. He didn’t want Jesus to die; he wanted to let him go. He went around to the people trying to tell them that Jesus had done nothing wrong but they wouldn’t listen, and just kept shouting, “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”

The soldiers then took Jesus to a Palace and made him wear an old royal rob and made a crown of thorns to put onto his head. They then made fun of him, saying things like, “Hail king on the Jews” They didn’t understand that Jesus really was a kind, and so they made fun of him.

The soldiers then took Jesus to a hill called Golgotha. They made him carry the cross on his back but Jesus couldn’t carry it the whole way, he fell down. The soldiers had whipped Jesus so much that he couldn’t handle carrying the heavy weight of the cross.

A man called Simon happened to be near Jesus when he fell, and so the soldiers made Simon carry the cross the rest of the way. The soldiers also offered Jesus some wine mixed with myrrh which was supposed to make him feel less pain but Jesus refused to have any.

When they had finally reached the top of the hill, the soldiers nailed Jesus to the cross. There were 3 crosses including Jesus’. Jesus was in the middle and there were criminals on his left and on his right. Pilate then put a sign above Jesus’ cross which said what he had been punished for: Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.

They then watched Jesus and made fun of him. Some people even divided up his clothes and kept them for themselves. Jesus got thrown more threats and things like: “You saved others, why can’t you save yourself?”  Jesus could have saved himself, but he chose not to, He wanted to save us instead.

Jesus ignored the people, but he did see his mother, his aunt and some other people he knew in the crowd. He felt bad for them. His mother was so sad to see her son die.

Jesus saw one of his disciples next to his mother, and so Jesus said, “Mother, here is your son, and friend here is your mother.” Jesus couldn’t saw much, he was very weak. But he wanted someone to take care of his mother, to be a son to his mother, to take care of her. And from that day on, that’s what he did.

Later, Jesus could not handle the pain any longer, and so he said, “It is finished.” That’s when Jesus bowed his head and went to Heaven.

Just at that moment, a huge curtain that hang at the temple was torn in half from top to bottom. A man that wanted Jesus to die saw all of this and said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”  He realized he had been wrong about Jesus.

It wasn’t until 3 days after that happened (Sunday) that Jesus rose from the grave and then ascended into Heaven. That’s why we celebrate Easter.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter! Enjoy your chocolates! I know I will enjoy mine! :)
